In HCI/d, we have a diverse group of students from all over the world. Master’s cohorts range from 40-50 students, and work together for their 2 year program. Our Master’s students are encouraged to submit their work to conferences like CHI and HRI and have often been honored at these conferences. Each student also gets a financial stipend to attend a professional or academic conference either as a presenter or attendee. Our Master’s students regularly travel to conferences like IxDA, or SXSW in addition to academic conferences.
Our PhD students connect not only with other HCI students, but with PhD students from every program in the school, including Health Informatics, Security Informatics, Complex Systems, Bioinformatics, Virtual Heritage, and others. We encourage our students to collaborate across disciplines to broaden their views. PhD students are encouraged to submit to major conferences like CHI, CSCW and others, and have the full support of faculty as co-authors, editors, and mentors, depending on what kind of support they need. Indiana University is a fixture at these major academic conferences.
